Post-Consumer Paper

POST-INDUSTRIAL PAPER
Comes from recuperated paper used in industrial applications and has been de-inked. The post-industrial term corresponds to the FSC pre-consumer definition and does not include mill broke.

POST-CONSUMER PAPER
Comes from recuperated paper used by consumers through recycling programs, has been de-inked and does not include mill broke.

VIRGIN PAPER
Paper made exclusively from wood fibre harvested from forests.
 

Ecologo

ECOLOGO
Certification from Environment Canada's Environmental Choice Program.

Identifies environmentally friendly products. Criteria are greenhouse gas emissions, water and energy resources consumption and use of recycled fibre.

Cascades is the only Canadian fine paper manufacturer that has been certified EcoLogo.
 

Processed Chlorine Free

PROCESSED CHLORINE FREE
Certification from the Chlorine Free Product Association – CFPA.

Processed Chlorine Free (PCF): paper manufactured with no chlorine.

Cascades is the only Canadian fine paper manufacturer certified PCF.

OTHER CERTIFICATIONS FROM THE CFPA
Totally Chlorine Free (TCF): virgin paper manufactured with no chlorine.
Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF): paper containing no chlorine, but its derivatives.
 

FSC

FSC
Forest Stewardship Council Certification – FSC.

Supports responsible use of forest resources.
 

FSC Recycled

FSC Recycled certifies the 100% post-consumer content of a product, taking into account all transformation steps, from raw material to the consumer product.

FSC Mixt

FSC Mixed Sources certifies that the product comes from well-managed forests, controlled sources and recycled fibre.

OTHER CERTIFICATIONS FROM THE FSC
FSC Pure certifies that the product comes entirely from well-managed forests' harvested trees.

Biogas Energy

BIOGAS
Gas produced from the decomposition of waste in a landfill, which is transported to the mill and used in the papermaking process. Using this green energy substantially reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
 

Permanent Paper

PERMANENT PAPER
Criteria and certifications established by the American National Standards Institute – ANSI.

Alkaline or neutral paper that can resist aging for more than 100 years under normal warehousing conditions.
