Environment / Carbon Footprint It is time to be transparentThe Carbon Footprint calculates the quantity of greenhouse gas emissions generated by the different steps of a product's manufacturing process, from the collection of raw materials to the mill door. The results of the Carbon Footprint report provide a concrete and precise picture of carbon emissions produced during the manufacturing process, but need to be compared to be fully understood. This difference in greenhouse gas emissions is due in part to the large quantities of carbon produced by forest management and landfill waste related to the manufacture of virgin paper. Logging releases substantial amounts of carbon into the atmosphere and, therefore, must be included in the total Carbon Footprint report as stated in the Kyoto Protocol. The same principle applies to the accumulation of carbon in the manufacture of paper coming directly from wood. The quantity and type of energy and chemicals used to manufacture the paper are also determining factors. The manufacturing of recycled paper offers numerous environmental benefits including the use of materials that otherwise would be shipped to landfill sites where they would produce enormous amounts of greenhouse gases.
Because reducing the ecological footprint is of paramount importance, we believe you should know where we stand.
